We're going to Rock Till Ya Drop
We made a New Year’s resolution to get started on Oldsmar Days early and we are proud to announce what we think is one of our strongest band line-ups ever. With all things classic this is a mix of tried and old favorites plus a few new and exciting twists. For the complete schedule of our exciting weekend events click here.
On Friday night March 27 we will welcome back Charlie O and the Houserocker’s. a Mississippi style southern rock and blues band that lit up R.E. Olds Park last year with their outstanding arrangements and great vocals. We’re pumped to have Charlie back in town as he has moved back to Mississippi and we don’t get to see him as often in the Bay area. So mark your calendars for this one.
On Saturday we kick the day off with Fredo and the Cones, a new act for us. Fredo specializes in the great harmonies that marked the Motown sound so be prepared for some classic rock and roll that will bring back great memories. They will be followed by Slick Side featuring Billy Sandlin and his wife and partner Jenna. This versatile group ranges from rock through blues and jazz and has played openers for some of the biggest names in the business including Charlie Daniels and Montgomery Gentry. Don’t be surprised if Fredo and one or more of the Boys jump in to add to the fun. We’ll finish off a great Saturday of classic rock with another super pairing the Galloway-Kelliher band followed by our perennial favorite Commander Cody. Galloway-Kelliher are well known on the Orlando scene and play some hard driving southern rock –cowboy style. Their Outlaws and Renegades CD is a top seller in the European market. What can we say about the Commander and his great crew including Steve Barbuto on drums and Mark Emerich, lead guitar. You have to experience their unique blend of rock and boogie woogie if you are a classic rock and roller. Last year the two bands combined to provide an impromptu jam session that we’re still talking about. Look for more of the same this year.
Sunday we start strong with one of the area’s hottest bands Stormbringer for the second straight year. They have been one of Florida’s premier rock and roll bands for over 20 years and we are proud to have them back on the stage at R.E. Olds. Robby Steinhardt, a founding member of Kansas, and local resident, periodically jumps in the mix with Stormbringer and did last year. We also had a Steinhardt sighting at Oktoberfest so we kind of think we may get a special guest. John Vasalakis does the lead vocals and we can guarantee you that this one well worth your time.
We’ll bring Oldsmar Days 2009 to a close with something new and exciting. Herb Gross and the Invicta’s, a reunited popular 60’s garage band will be on stage. Check out the full story behind their reunion tour and their famous Big Caddy Hearse. Herb now produces Rock Till Ya Drop TV and our event marks a major kick-off point for the venture. You want that old time rock and roll? This is the spot! Listen to a mix of Invicta’s originals, like The Hump, as well as a host of great era classics. The Invicta’s have been covered on the Today show and played as the undercard for Jimmy Buffet. We promise a high energy, toe-tapping, booty shaking ending to a great weekend of classic cars, classic rock in a classic Florida setting. Does it get any better than this?
