Why do I like thee, let me count the ways
A recent report by the Shapiro Group and Market Street Serices surveyed over 2000 adults nationwide to find out what they think about chambers of commerce and businesses that are members of local chambers. It's a short report (9 pages) so we are including the whole package. Just click here to view.
But here is a couple things we found interesting.
The survey looked at how consumers viewed chamber members related to four traits: Use Good Business Practices - chambers members get a 29% advantage Reputable Business- 26% advantage to member businesses Cares about Customers - 13% advantage Community Involvement - 12% bump
These advantages hold or get better for businesses that sponsor chamber events or get their employees involved in chamber activities,
Interestingly the survey looked at specific industries and franchise businesses. It found that franchise restaurants that are active in chambers, local consumers are 50% more likely to eat at that franchise more often. (Applebee's and Buffalo Wild Wings corroborated that after Freedom Fest). Among those less knowledgeable about the franchise the advantage grows to 70%. For insurance members consumers are 43% more likely to consider a purchase if the company is a chamber member.
We believe our 'product' is building relationships. The stat we like best in the study is how chambers impact consumers in the south. In terms of local reputation and likelihood to purchase, chamber members get an incredible 82% advantage over non-chamber members. It really proves that it is all about relationships and always buying chamber.
Well shut my mouth!
